After much consideration among our board, staff, and Area Reps, we have decided to open some of our SCC-owned properties with limited access – however, this comes with a caution. Do not rush to the crags or boulders right now. We are all excited to be able to climb again, but the reality is that the very nature of climbing brings us in close proximity with others and some communities in our region are still experiencing new COVID cases daily. If we find that our properties are getting overcrowded, we will be forced to close them again. We ask that all visitors follow the highest level of care by staying local with members of your household, practicing social distancing at the rock or on the trail, cleaning your hands between every climb, and minimizing risk.

Oftentimes, the best decision is to stay home to climb another day. The rocks will be there in the future, we promise (literally, because we own them).

SCC Properties that will open at this time include Steele, Jamestown, Hospital Boulders, Yellow Bluff, King’s Bluff, and Deep Creek. We will wait a little while longer before reopening Boat Rock. Castle Rock remains closed at this time. Visitation will be limited to 10 vehicles per day. You must request the gate code on the day that you wish to visit. Please do not share the gate code with others or allow others onto the property without a gate code. This protocol is an effort to prevent our crags from getting crowded so that we can follow CDC guidelines. Check our website for more information about other public climbing areas in our region, www.seclimbers.org/closures.
