On Wednesday, March 6, 2002 a $10,000.00 grant was approved by the Access
Fund www.accessfund.org for the 7.7 acre tract at Boat Rock. Boat Rock is a
boulderfield currently threatened by urban sprawl. Located in southwest
Atlanta the area has been the focus of fundraising by The Southeastern
Climbers Coalition (SCC) and local climbing activists. The Access Fund
grant now brings the total to over $24,000.00 which will allow for the
downpayment and closing cost associated with the loan. It is our hope to
sign a contract in the next few days with a closing in 90 days. The Access
Fund has made a solid committment to help the Boat Rock project and to date
has included legal assistance, coordination and financial support. Your
support and donations to the Access Fund allow for them to make generous
grant donations to projects like this.
The SCC will continue to raise funds with an upcoming boulder comp at
Sandrock on March 23, a cleanup and boulder session in Birmingham on March
30th and a slide show at Wall Crawlers in Decatur, Georgia (Atlanta) on
April 7th. Look for more info on these events in the calendar section.
