Boat Rock Ribbon Cutting Ceremony On Saturday, June 1st, 2002, the Atlanta climbing community will sponsor an open house to showcase Boat Rock. The 7.7 acre tract has been saved from development and will be open to climbing. After 6 months of furious fundraising we have nearly $30,000.00 which is enough money for the down payment and closing cost. The remainder of the balance ($80,000.00) will be co-signed by several local climbers to provide long term access. We will obviously need to continue our fundraising efforts, but for now the area is safe from the bulldozers.

The fun starts at 9:00 as we will be cleaning up the area, building trails and a small parking lot. We will need folks to bring shovels, picks, rakes and even blow torches to cut up old car parts. At 12:00 we will be having a ribbon cutting ceremony with several local climbers and community activists on hand. Of course we are having a BBQ after all that hard work and then the real fun begins. We are having a bouldering tour of the "new" area highlighting such classic problems as Paint Can, Ron Kauk Problem, Lost Digits and what arguably has been called the best problem on the ridge, Waves in Motion.

Come on out and enjoy your new bouldering area. Bring your bouldering pad and shoes and some cash for the raffle. For more info contact: mbmcleod@mindspring.com Directions to Boat Rock at www.drtopo.com
