If death defying run outs on a 1000'
granite wall flip your skirt up, then Whitesides Mountain is your
next destination. Located near Highlands, North Carolina, this
wall is the epitome of bold southern climbing. With a long
tradition of run outs, minimal gear, and a strong ground up hand
bolting ethic, this cliff is an inspiration to the Southern
hardman.

The Whitesides Trail Day was a great success with 15 volunteers showing up to help maintain the trail. The event was a collaborative
effort by The Southeastern Climbers Coalition, The Carolina Climbers Coalition, the Forest Service and the Access Fund. Whitesides
is located near Highlands, in the mountain region of North Carolina and is known for it's spectacular 700' granite face. Hikers and
climbers alike use the trail to gain access to the mountain and the grand view at the top. Yon Lambert led a trail crew to repair
erosion problems, and install water bars. Jason Love and Brad McLeod decided to move some large boulders and reworked the
entrance to the trail. The group broke for lunch and headed to Mountain Fresh for some great deli sandwiches. Later that afternoon
the group made their way out to the cliff and Doc Bayne led "Boulder Problem in the Sky" with several climbers in tow. A perfect way
to end of day of service to our local crags. For more info on the trail event check out the SCC website at: www.seclimbers.org
