    Jake Slaney Interview

    Jake Slaney working.
If you climbed in Alabama in the 1990's..strike that. If you climbed on the East Coast in the 1990's then you have more than once heard the name of Jake Slaney. Pretty much any time you went to a crag and looked over towards the steep and no often done routes, you caught a glimpse of a tall and young lad pulling down on really hard stuff or just doing multiple laps on 5.12's. From Little River to the New River and all parts in between, Jake was a force to be reckoned with as he floating through tilted sandstone in search of the next high digit send.

    John Bachar Interview

When thinking of the greatest names in climbing there are a few that float to the top. Forged in the old school tradition, John Bachar is one of the original Yosemite hardman. HIs list of accomplishments and first ascents would be longer than both of his cabled arms. From hard multi-pitch solo's, heady ground up first ascent leads, high ball hard bouldering, and way hard old school bolted lines (think 40 feet plus between buttonheads). Round that off with John's climbing shoe design (Acopa shoes) and his ability to pick up a saxophone and wail on some bluesy tunes. John is right there where he has always been. On the edge.

Note: Special thanks to Rob Robinson for helping to set up the interview with John Bachar.

Climbers battle for invitation to Nationals
On May 10th, 2008, the Southeastern Regional Comp at Adrenaline Climbing was held at Adrenaline Climbing Gym in Suwanee (north Atlanta), Georgia. The event drew a packed crowd as competitors all climbed hard to make it to Nationals. The climbers stakes were super high as the winners got an invitation out to Nationals - so the heat was on.

Note: Thanks to Adenaline Gym for their support of the SCC and the Access Fund's TeamWorks program.

    The south face of Lhotse
Florin Grama is known for climbing super hard sport routes and traveling to wild and exotic snow covered peaks for a little challenge. Here are a few notes from Florin and a quick interview about his upcoming trilp to the south face of Lhotse. Florin lives in the ATL, climbs hard all over the dirty South and is a big supporter of SE climbing and local access issues.

From Florin: Just as a quick news for seclimbers.org if you are interested, I am returning to the Himalayas for the 4th highest peak of the world, (Lhotse 8516m). The expedition is starting in April 1 through June 6 2007. For more information about the expedition and for anyone who wants to check in periodically to see the latest news as the expedition unfolds, they can go to www.fgrama.com.
